With a $5 Million Gift, The Wegman Family Charitable Foundation Among Lead Donors to Rochester Regional Health Campaign

Rochester, NY - The Wegman Family Charitable Foundation (the Foundation) has committed $5 million to support patient care and capital improvements within Rochester Regional Health.

The gift is one of the largest made to Rochester Regional’s $300 million fundraising campaign, Because Care Matters. The Foundation joins the Sands Family Foundation, Constellation Brands, Inc. and the Riedman Foundation as a lead contributor to the Campaign, since its launch in November 2016.

“We need to ensure everyone in the community has access to high quality medical care,” says Danny Wegman, the Foundation’s president and chairman of the board. “Any endeavor that seeks to improve the quality of the region’s healthcare demands our attention and support.”

The Wegman Family Charitable Foundation, headquartered in Rochester, has a history of supporting community programs in the areas of education, health and wellness, and workforce development.

In recognition of the Foundation’s leadership support, the Rochester Regional Health Learning Center will be renamed the Wegman Center for Workforce Development at Rochester Regional Health. Renovations to the building will be complete in the fall. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at that time.

Eric Bieber, MD, president and CEO of Rochester Regional Health, says “We are exceedingly grateful for the Wegman family’s support of our mission. Renaming the center in their name is an opportunity for us to recognize their commitment to our community, while reinforcing our shared belief in the importance of workforce training for a healthier, more sustainable economy.”

Currently, the learning center provides advanced training opportunities and space for clinical and non-clinical staff through the Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing and the simulation and training laboratory. It is also the base for Rochester Regional’s electronic medical record training.

“We are honored to have our family’s name associated with a facility that helps employees learn new skills and reach their potential,” said Wegman.
