November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. According to statistics, more than 29 million Americans in the United States have diabetes. Of those, more than 8 million may be undiagnosed and unaware of their condition. Dr. Suzan Saber discusses patients with diabetes and eating carbs.

Q: I love my carbs, do I need to give them up because I have diabetes?
A: Absolutely not! Carbohydrates are our main source of energy and provide us with important nutrients, vitamins, and fiber. The type and amount you consume can make a difference in your blood glucose levels.

Grains such as rice, pasta, cereal and bread
Starchy vegetables such as beans lentils, corn and peas
Fruit and juice
Milk and yogurt
